Matariki

It is a time to reflect on the past, celebrate the present and look to the future.

It was Tāwhirimātea, who felt the pain through the separation of his parents Ranginui (Skyfather) and Papatūānuku (Earthmother).

His brother Tanemahuta (God of the Forest, lay on his back and pushed his father up to the sky with his feet, separating their parents.

Tāwhirimātea tore out his eyes and threw them into the Milky Way which became Matariki or an abbreviation of ‘Ngā Mata o te Ariki’ – 'The Eyes of the God'

The Nine Stars of Matariki (Pleiades)

Each star connects to different aspects in our lives, celebrating our relationship to each other and our surroundings.
